Who else loves a long weekend? โค๏ธ๐ŸŒฑ Have a wonderful holiday everyone and remember: eat vegan chocolate ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜

Throwback to the Philippines ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ a country I was told would be โ€˜impossibleโ€™ to be vegan in. Before visiting I assumed I would have to live on tropical fruit, white rice, and occasionally a side of vegetables, for a month. While I donโ€™t consider this a balanced diet, I was fully-prepared to do this for a short time.

Instead I was pleased to find many vegan cafes, vegan options at non-vegan places, and a number of smoothie places. Now, it was significantly less abundant in plant-based foods then places like Thailand, Bali, Cambodia and Sri Lanka, but I did find compassionate, conscious cooking everywhere we went. We also found an abundance of plant foods in markets and were able to cook healthy, balanced meals as we went.

Itโ€™s a myth that finding vegan food while travelling is hard. Itโ€™s more interesting, healthier, and needless to say: itโ€™s more compassionate. My lifestyle doesnโ€™t limit me: it frees me๐Ÿ๐Ÿ˜

I went to bed in tears last night and woke up in tears this morning. I cried for our oceans. I cried for the dolphins. I cried for the sharks and the coral reefs. I cried for the slaves and the seaside communities who struggle due to human greed.

I urge you, if you havenโ€™t already, to watch @seaspiracy I believe this is the most important documentary of our time.

There's a misconception that being plant-based/vegan is expensive. For me it's been the opposite. I saved money by going plant-based. Hereโ€™s how:

1. My shopping bill is cheaper. Meat is spendy, but beans and wholegrains are not. By removing animal products from my trolley I've been able to save every week. It's no secret that meat alternatives can be pricey, but for most vegans these are treat foods, not things we buy everyday. Given their, sometimes high, sodium content this is no bad thing.

2. Supplements. I'm healthy, happy, and thriving. Pre-plant-based I was sore, tired, and frustrated. I took various supplements to boost my inadequate diet and this meant spending hard-earned cash at the health food store.

3. Therapies. My chronic muscle pain led me to massage therapists and a physio who I visited frequently to keep on top of things. I never really got better, just managed my symptoms. Looking back it was money down the drain.

4. I've found cheaper vegan products. My makeup, skincare, and shampoo are all significantly cheaper than my previous non-vegan cosmetics. I shopped around a bit to find the perfect products, but overall I've found vegan and cruelty-free products can be high-quality, and less expensive.

If you're interested to learn more I wrote an entire post on Medium covering the same topic. Link in my bio.

Are you vegan? Have you found it to be cheaper, or more expensive? X

Hearing about violence against women always affects me. After law school I felt deeply affected by womenโ€™s place in society. I built up resentment, fear, and anxiety about being in a world that doesnโ€™t value people equally.

While the news this week has been heavy, especially for Asian women to whom my heart goes out, I want these times to remind us of two things: 1. to be more loving to all humans. 2. To live more fully and wholly as ourselves.

Some men are violent towards women, not because women arenโ€™t worthy, or weak, but because women are innately powerful. I hope you all know just how powerful you are. โค๏ธ

Also, please speak up for your Asian community. Say no to racism in all of its forms x

You know your 30 when...

Nothing excites you more than visiting the market for a huge haul of fruit and vege ๐Ÿ˜

Favourite fruit: Mangostein (wish it was cheaper here on the coast!). Also absolutely love mango, purple dragonfruit, papaya, and passionfruit.๐Ÿ˜‹

Truth is though, I love all the fruits! ๐Ÿฅญ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‰๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ‹
